Ming Line Loads First Train At Their Los Angeles

Colby Haines Tel: (562) 420-2782 May 28, 1999 LOS ANGELES: Yang Ming Line Los Angeles Container Terminals first on-dock rail train was loaded May 11 at their West Basin California (WBCA) rail facility by stevedore and terminal operator Marine Terminals Corp. The Chicago-bound BNSF train was completed in one shift using a 24-ton capacity Taylor tophandler and departed on schedule with 94 percent slot utilization. YML is operating under Phase I of the WBCA construction, which has two loading tracks, capable of holding nine 5-well DST cars per track for a total capacity of 180 FEUs. YML is currently running one BNSF train per week during this phase of the construction. The 23-acre, dedicated on-dock WBCA rail yard is scheduled for completion this fall. It will have three loading tracks and three storage tracks. Each track will have the capacity of nine 5-well DST cars, 90 FEUs per track, 540 FEUs total. Subsequent
train operations, weeks of May 21 and May 26, went smoothly and departed
