OAKLAND, Calif. – MTC Holdings employees contributed thousands of dollars to aid in the relief efforts for victims of the Tsunami in S. E. Asia, and MTC Holdings proudly matched those contributions.

Although the disaster has faded from daily headlines, the needs and problems created by the Tsunami still exist and are projected to be long term. In just two months, contributions from personnel within MTCH’s business units totaled $37,000. This amount was matched by the company to make a grand total of $74,000.

President and CEO Doug Tilden expressed his gratitude to the employees who contributed so generously.

“I want to thank each of you for opening your hearts to the people affected by this catastrophe,” Tilden said in a company-wide communication. “I would also like to bring attention to the fact that many other worthwhile charitable organizations are suffering in terms of contributions due to the diversion of funds to the tsunami relief effort. Therefore, I would ask everyone to be conscious of this, and, in any way you can throughout the year, direct some giving to these other worthwhile charities that do so much for the major problems facing much of the world’s population.”

MTC Holdings’ business units include Oakland-headquartered Marine Terminals Corp., a family-owned contract stevedore and terminal operating company that has served the U.S. West Coast shipping community since 1931 and the U.S. East Coast since 2001. Combined, MTC has stevedoring and terminal operations in more than 26 West Coast locations and five East Coast ports. The company handles more than six million TEUs per year in addition to providing a comprehensive network of stevedoring, terminal operations and related cargo-handling services for automobiles, refrigerated commodities, steel, forest products, general cargo, bulk, rolling stock, yachts, heavy lifts, military and special projects. MTC’s diversified services to the transportation industry are enhanced and expanded through joint ventures with major ocean carriers and their many affiliates that specialize in insurance, warehousing, equipment, M&R, and software development.
