LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Total Terminals International, a joint venture between Hanjin Shipping and Marine Terminals Corp., was honored by the Port of Long Beach for its efforts to reduce pollution related to diesel emissions.

In an April ceremony held at Pier Echo in Long Beach, the Port of Long Beach presented TTI President James Kwon with a trophy in recognition of TTI’s program to reduce diesel fuel emissions through the use of “green machinery.” The port thanked TTI for being ahead of the curve and working with it on the emulsified fuel and its Green Port / Healthy Harbor Program.

TTI Vice President of Customer Service and Sales Frank Capo spoke about TTI’s commitment to operating a “greener” facility.

“TTI will continue to be actively involved in reducing pollution from fuel emissions,” Capo said. “Everyone benefits from cleaner air, our workforce and the surrounding communities. We also closely monitor our receiving and delivery gates operations and truck times, offering appointment systems and installing OCR cameras to reduce truck congestion and wait times, which in turn helps reduce exhaust from equipment we do not control.”

TTI retrofitted 130 utility tractors/hustlers (UTRs,) and 28 top handlers with special diesel oxidation catalysts (DOC) that removes particulates from the exhaust. All this equipment is run on emulsified diesel fuel. The retrofitting was overseen by Ken Pope, area maintenance manager for Marine Terminals Corp.
