million container lifts in one year at its Pier T
The millionth lift was a Hanjin container on the M/V Hanjin Baltimore. Although the terminal is best known for Hanjin Shipping, several other container vessels call the facility, including Yang Ming Line, COSCO, K Line, Wan Hai, Sinotrans, U.S. Lines, Maruba and China Shipping. The 345-acres facility, expanding to 380 by early 2007, averages 3,000 gate moves per day shift and 1300 per night shift. The terminal equipment includes 14 gantry cranes, 21 transtainers and 35 tophandlers, to support both a wheeled and grounded operation. The terminal’s on-dock rail services also experienced tremendous growth in 2005, increasing overall lifts by 30 percent to reach 236,185 containers. TTI Vice President of Customer Service and Sales Frank Capo spoke about the terminal’s growth. “Attaining one million lifts in one year is a true milestone for TTI as a company and a testament to the dedicated, hard work of our employees,” Capo said. “With the addition of 30 acres this year and the continued growth of our customers’ business, we are confident that 2005 is only the first of many record-breaking years to come. However, we are ever mindful that along with such growth comes the need to continue to provide the highest quality service, which, above all, remains our primary goal.”
