Grand Opening of MTC de Mexico Office Included Side Trip to Lázaro Cárdenas

The grand opening of MTC de Mexico's Mexico City office on March 2, 2006 was attended by industry leaders, politicians and business people from the various sectors of supply chain management.

The celebration was hosted by MTC Holdings Executive Vice President Steven Lautsch; Marine Terminals Corp. Executive Vice President – Container and JV Operations Walter Romanowski; and Marine Terminals Corp. Executive Vice President - General Stevedoring Services Don Wylie.

MTC spoke about its intention to grow in Mexico, create jobs and improve international cargo-handling systems.

“By investing in Mexico, MTC Holdings is planning to create the next major cargo-handling hub on the Pacific Rim,” Lautsch. “Natural harbors, skilled work force and a strong economy make for a terrific combination.”

The following day, the company took an elite group of ocean shipping executives on a trip to The Port of Lázaro Cárdenas, where they received a warm welcome from the port, conducted a site visit and met with Mexican Customs officials.

In February, MTC Holdings announced that the formation of MTC de Mexico was in response to growing shipper demands for increased capacity in the North American market. The Mexico offices in Santa Fe (Mexico City) and Tijuana are headed by MTC de Mexico Director General Miguel Favela.

MTC Holdings' business units include Oakland-headquartered Marine Terminals Corp., serving the U.S. West Coast since 1931, and MTC East, serving the U.S. East Coast since 2001.

Combined, MTC has stevedoring and terminal operations in more than 26 West Coast locations and six East Coast ports, handles more than six million TEUs annually and provides a comprehensive network of related cargo-handling services for automobiles, refrigerated commodities, steel, forest products, general cargo, bulk, rolling stock, military and special projects. MTC's services are enhanced and expanded through affiliates that specialize in insurance, warehousing, equipment, M&R, and software development, and joint ventures with major ocean carriers.
