Colby Haines Tel: (562) 420-2782 April 25, 2005 At this years round of the Pacific Maritime Association annual safety awards banquets, Marine Terminals Corp. re-established its number one stevedore position in Southern California as its Long Beach/Los Angeles operations were awarded both Coast and Area First Place Group A Stevedoring for Lowest Injury Rate - So. Calif. as well as Reduced Injury/Illness Incident Rate. Other MTC sites recognized with awards for safety include Vancouver USA First Place Area Group B Stevedore Lowest Injury Rate Oregon, Second Place Coast Group B Stevedore Lowest Injury Rate, and Reduction in Injury Rate two consecutive years; Port of Hueneme Coast and Area Second Place Group B Stevedore Lowest Injury Rate SoCal. and Reduction in Injury Rate; Puget Sound Second Place Group B Container Operator Lowest Injury Rate -- WA Area; Terminal 6, Portland Coast Second Place Group C Container Operator Lowest Injury Rate and, for the second consecutive year, Reduction in Injury Rate; Sacramento Second Place Group C Stevedore Lowest Injury Rate NorCal Area and Reduction in Injury Rate; San Francisco Bay Reduction in Injury Rate, and The National Lines Bureau Reduction in Injury Rate. MTC Exec. VP Operations Dave Adam commented on MTCs overall accomplishments. Safety
has always been a top priority in all MTCs operations, Adam
said. MTC regional safety departments are all ISO registered and
hold their own ISO certification from Worldwide Quality Assurance, United
Kingdom. However, we know these achievements represent a group effort
that could not have been accomplished without the tremendous support of
our ILWU labor force. Oakland-headquartered Marine Terminals Corp., a family-owned contract stevedore and terminal operating company, has served the U.S. West Coast shipping community since 1931 and the U.S. East Coast since 2001. Combined, MTC has stevedoring and terminal operations in more than 26 West Coast locations and five East Coast ports.
