Colby Haines Key Management Changes Announced by Marine Termnial Corp.'s General Stevedoring Division July 18, 2006 Marine Terminals Corp., a leading national contract stevedore and terminal operating company, recently announced key management changes, starting with the August retirement of Jerry Klein, MTC VP sales for the Pacific Northwest. A U.S. Army veteran, Klein began his maritime career more than 40 years ago working for Brady Hamilton Stevedoring Company from 1966 to 1983. He then went to work for the Port of Vancouver, until he signed on with MTC in 1989 when it opened its Vancouver, Wash., office. He attended Portland State College. Steve Mathis has been appointed to replace Klein’s position with MTC, taking the title of Pacific Northwest business development manager and working out of the MTC Vancouver, Wash., office. Mathis will retain and procure new cargoes for the PNW region. Reporting to Tom Cremer, MTC VP – general manager of sales and contracts, Mathis will grow the PNW general breakbulk, bulk and project cargo business and continue MTC’s close ties with the PNW ports. Mathis began his ten-year career at the Port of Sacramento as its pricing executive and was progressively promoted to his last position as the director of marketing, where he was responsible for developing and implementing the marketing effort at the port. Additionally, Mathis is a logistics professional with more than 24 years of experience in all areas of distribution and logistics, including port and stevedoring services, ocean shipping, warehousing, LTL and FTL trucking, rail and air. He received a B.S. in business administration with an emphasis in management information systems from California State University, Sacramento and an MBA from National University. The two management promotions announced are John C. Hering and Felice Goodwin. Hering was promoted to the position of general manager - MTC Auto Division following three years as vice president sales and three year as general manager of sales for MTC’s West Coast automobile and Ro / Ro division. Prior to joining MTC in 1999, Hering worked for 11 years with Jones Stevedoring Co. as vessel superintendent and manager of the automobile department in the Columbia River area. In this new position as general manager auto division, Hering is responsible for all West Coast auto-related operations on the terminal and the vessel as well as the sales and commercial aspects for the auto division. Hering, who received a B.A. political science in 1985 from the University of California Berkeley, works out of MTC’s Southern California regional office in San Pedro. He reports to Christian M. Eyler, vice president of MTC coast-wide operations –general stevedoring division. Goodwin was promoted to business manager of MTC’s general stevedoring division following 15 years with MTC in various financial management and analysis positions. As business manager for the general stevedoring line of business, she is responsible for ensuring the integrity of all procedures related to financial accounting and reporting, site audit and analysis, labor cost accounting, fixed asset accounting, accounts payable, payroll and other general and subsidiary ledger activities for the general stevedoring division. Goodwin works out of MTC’s Seattle office and reports to Don Wylie, MTC executive vice president of general stevedoring services.
