Marine Terminals Corp., a leading national contract stevedore and terminal operating company, received the NYK Best Quality Award 2004 first prize in recognition of its damage-free auto discharge operation at Site 422, Vancouver, Wash., where is handled 41,860 units in calendar year 2004.

Mike Munson, MTC site manager - Columbia River Autos Operation, acknowledged the team effort that he, MTC Sr. Superintendent Ben Thamert and MTC Superintendent Steve Dodd experienced with labor on this operation.

“This damage-free award is an important achievement,” Munson said. “It is not easy to accomplish. It takes the concerted efforts of not only the MTC superintendents, but also the ILWU Local 4’s longshoremen, clerks and foremen in Vancouver to make it work. Congratulations to them and the out ports that helped produce a damage-free year. It takes a lot of hard work and a little luck to be on top, and that is our goal for 2005.”

Oakland-headquartered Marine Terminals Corp., a family-owned contract stevedore and terminal operating company, has served the U.S. West Coast shipping community since 1931 and the U.S. East Coast since 2001.
