Marine Terminals Corporation (MTC), leading West Coast contract stevedore and terminal operating company, has promoted Brian J. Boyle from general manager for Northern California to vice president of operations for the USWC.

Boyle, a graduate of the California Maritime Academy, joined MTC in 1991. He assisted in numerous terminal start ups in both Northern and Southern California and lead the MTAMS 2001 project development. Boyle also serves on the PMA California sub-steering committee.

Located in MTC's Oakland office, Boyle will focus on corporate metrics, the standardization of processes, and maintaining superior performance levels in all divisions of MTC's operations. He will oversee MTC's relationships with its systems' vendor, Embarcadero Systems Inc. (ESC), as MTC maximizes the capability of its re-platformed terminal operating system.

Another facet of Boyle's new position is supervising the continuing ISO programs, as MTC obtains additional ISO 9002 registrations and maintains certifications at seven of its facilities. MTC has set numerous ISO 9002 "firsts": first USWC stevedore and terminal operating company to be certified and registered ISO 9002 (January 1997 - for operations at Terminal 3, Port of Vancouver [USA], Wash.); first such company in North America to receive ISO --more-- MTC Appoints Boyle VP Operations Oct. 16, 2001 Page two certification for a container terminal (1998 - Ben E. Nutter Container Terminal, Oakland, Calif.); first on the West Coast to be certified for stevedore and terminal auto operations (1999); and first to have its entire Health and Safety division certified (2000).

Oakland-headquartered Marine Terminals Corp. has served the U.S. West Coast shipping community since 1931, handling all major cargoes such as: containers, automobiles, newsprint, refrigerated products, steel, wood products, general, breakbulk, bulk and special projects and provides container customers with Web-based transportation logistics management systems to track and request information about shipping containers, cargo status and related activities.
