Perishables

MTC's dedicated management and labor force understand the unique needs of perishable cargo and its value to the shipper, consignee and the consumer.

Production and handling determine profitability for our customers, and the profitability of our customers is a measure of our success.

Marine Terminals Corporation excels at handling perishable chilled and frozen cargo, including fruits, vegetables and meats. We have seven decades of experience and a trusted reputation for ensuring these delicate products move quickly, keeping the cold chain and cargo integrity intact.

MTC holds many "Firsts" in perishable cargo on the West Coast, including:

  • The first stevedore and terminal operating company in San Diego to discharge New Zealand kiwis and Australian oranges;
  • The first stevedore to load one million cartons of citrus in the Port of Hueneme;
  • First to bring frozen meat into the Port of Hueneme
  • And the first to participate in a joint venture to develop and build the first double-Plenum, single-high, on-dock cold storage facility in Long Beach.

    MTC instituted the usage of special soft gear and will continue to provide the industry with innovative solutions to increase vessel production while maintaining optimal environmental conditions for this weather- and temperature-sensitive cargo.

    We maintain constant communications with federal, state, county, and local officials and agencies to ensure all regulations are followed, thereby avoiding unnecessary delays for import and export shipments.
