Containers

MTC does not rest on its long list of industry firsts. In all its endeavors, MTC remains committed to capturing the future and applying it today.

At every major port on the West Coast, Marine Terminals Corporation has developed container terminals and advanced the state of ocean container handling and management. From the birth of containerization, we have been involved, creating terminals from the initial design to final construction.

MTC helped the Port of Oakland develop the first container terminal on the U.S. West Coast, which opened in 1968. Since then, we have assisted many customers modernize their own facilities.

Throughout the process, MTC has enhanced efficiency and capacity. As the size and management of container terminals dramatically changed over the years, it was apparent innovative, forward thinking was necessary to keep vessel production high and volume flowing.

MTC not only keeps pace with the rapid changes and demands, we set the pace in this area. MTC became the first operator to be registered ISO 9002 for a container terminal in North America. MTC also was the first to achieve the record-breaking production of a recorded 51.55 MPH on a single crane and an overall vessel working production of 41.35 MPH.

MTC aligns with strategic partners to develop advanced technologies and supply maximum resources for the benefit of its customers.

Additionally, MTC created joint-venture partnerships with ocean carriers to perform the terminal operations functions at the carriers’ U.S. West Coast container terminals: Hanjin Shipping and MTC formed Total Terminals International (TTI); Evergreen Marine and MTC created Seaside Transportation Services (STS); and Yang Ming, China Shipping and MTC joined together as West Basin Container Terminals (WBCT). MTC continues to pursue similar ventures with other companies to forge mutually beneficial partnerships.

MTC also set the industry pace with the real-time container cargo tracking and shipping information system called VoyagerTrack™ Customers can access their cargo and shipping information via the Internet or by phone through a Voice Response Unit. VoyagerTrack’s special Event Notification feature enables interested parties to be notified automatically by fax or e-mail when: a container is received, delivered, or available for pick up; demurrage is due; a hold is placed or cleared; or a booking becomes valid.
